8.45am - Depart London Eye

Our first pick-up location is at the corner of Belvedere Road and Chicheley Street, SE1 7PB, which serves as the bus stop for the London Eye (see departure point details here). This spot is in the Waterloo area, just a short walk from both Waterloo and Westminster Stations. Your bus and guide will typically arrive 5-10 minutes before the scheduled departure. Look out for a small white bus with "The English Bus" on the side. Please arrive with plenty of time to ensure a prompt departure, as it is crucial to leave on time.

9.10am - Depart Victoria

Our second pick-up point is outside the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London Victoria, located at 2 Bridge Place, SW1V 1QA (see departure point details here). It is just a short walk from Victoria Station. Exit the station via Exit 1 and turn right. Please wait outside the hotel, and we will stop as close to the entrance as possible to pick you up.

After pick ups - Head west out of London

Once everyone has been picked up and you're comfortably seated, your driver/guide will introduce themselves and outline the plan for the day. As we head out of London, your guide will provide a full commentary, highlighting key landmarks along the way. We'll be happy to make a quick stop for a bathroom break, coffee, or snacks upon request. Feel free to enjoy food and drinks on the bus during the journey.

Late morning - Arrive Stonehenge

Before we arrive, your guide will provide an in-depth introduction to the archaeological significance of this mysterious stone circle, giving you a deeper understanding of its history, purpose, and the theories surrounding its construction. You'll learn about its alignment with the solstices, its role in ancient rituals, and the ongoing discoveries that continue to intrigue historians and archaeologists alike.

Once at Stonehenge, there will be plenty of time for photos, and your guide will accompany you through the visitor centre, where you can explore fascinating exhibits on the site's history, artifacts discovered during excavations, and the people who built the monument. You'll also have time to listen to the audio guide, visit the gift shop and café, and enjoy the modern visitor centre’s displays. Your guide will be available to answer questions, share lesser-known facts, and tell you some of the more unusual and captivating stories behind Stonehenge.

Afternoon - Scenic drive from Stonehenge to West Kennet Long Barrow

From Stonehenge, we’ll head north to our next ancient site, West Kennet Long Barrow. Our route takes us along the River Avon, passing through picturesque English countryside of Wiltshire and some of its charming villages, while your guide shares more fascinating insights into Britain’s ancient history. After a 45-minute drive, we'll step off the bus for a short walk to explore one of the largest and best-preserved chambered tombs in Britain. Your guide will lead you inside, allowing you time to explore the ancient chambers on your own. From this spot, you'll also have a clear view of Silbury Hill, the largest man-made mound in Europe—older than Stonehenge and perhaps even more enigmatic!

Late afternoon - Avebury stone circle

Just a few minutes from West Kennet is Avebury, home to the world’s largest stone circle and henge. In contrast to Stonehenge, Avebury is much larger and less regulated, allowing you to walk right up to—and even touch—the massive sarsen stones. The stone circle at Avebury is so vast that it encompasses an historic thatched pub and many traditional houses, creating a more immersive and relaxed atmosphere. While Stonehenge feels grand and mysterious, Avebury provides a more intimate experience, offering the chance to explore freely and connect directly with the ancient stones, offering a hands-on, personal connection to Britain's ancient past.

We'll have around 90 minutes at Avebury. On arrival, your guide will offer a walking tour, and a detailed explanation of the site, its significance and mysteries. You'll then have plenty of time to explore on your own. You could visit the nearby visitor centre, or soak in the atmosphere at the thatched pub (known to be the most haunted pub in England) located right in the heart of the circle—a perfect spot to rest your feet, have a bite to eat, or enjoy a drink.

Early evening - Route back to London

Departing Avebury along the long stone avenue that leads away from the main circle and henge, we will take a scenic but direct route back to London, passing through Wiltshire and into the county of Berkshire. We will pass more thatched houses, traditional villages, and country towns - quintessential England.

Our journey from Avebury back to London will take around 1 hour 45 minutes. Sit back, relax and let us do the driving.

8 - 8.15pm - Arrive back in London

Depending on traffic, we expect to return to London between 8:00 and 8:15 PM. Your guide will plan the route based on your preferred drop-off locations and will do their best to get you as close as possible to your destination. We will also aim to return to the original areas where you started the tour if it’s more convenient for you. Be sure to discuss your plans with your guide so they can ensure you know exactly how to reach your next stop.
